Common Questions
Professional experience placements total 800 hours and begin in Trimester 1 of your first year, continuing throughout every trimester of the course. Placements are undertaken in various metropolitan, regional, and rural healthcare settings including acute/sub-acute care, medical and surgical care, aged care, rehabilitation, community nursing, and mental health nursing. In addition, this course requires participation in 60 hours of mentored experiences.
The Bachelor of Nursing (Clinical Leadership) is the only undergraduate degree of its kind in Victoria. It builds on the core units of Deakin's Bachelor of Nursing with three additional core units focused on developing and enhancing your leadership potential — specifically Perspectives on Leadership and Management (HNN208), Perspectives on Research Leadership (HNN210), and Perspectives on Educational Leadership (HNN321). As part of these leadership units, students participate in mentored learning experiences working with clinical nurse leaders, research professors, and world-class educators from the School of Nursing and Midwifery.
All students must complete a Police Record Check prior to professional experience placements in each calendar year of their course, a Working with Children Check at the commencement of their course, and must declare their immunisation status to satisfy the requirements of health organisations where they will be undertaking their clinical learning experience. Failure to obtain the Police Record Check or Working with Children Check prior to the commencement of professional experience placement will mean students cannot undertake placements, which will impede progress in the course.
No, the course is only available to students on a full-time basis and is only available to domestic students. It is offered at Burwood (Melbourne) with a Trimester 1 (March) start. Most students undertake two trimesters each year (March–June, July–November), though you may be able to study available units in the optional third trimester to fast-track your degree.
Yes, the course is accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) and approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA), enabling clear career outcomes upon graduation as a registered nurse. The government's job projections for registered nurses are expected to grow by 11.3% by 2029, indicating strong demand. Graduates will be well-rounded with knowledge focused on clinical nursing leadership and management, research, and education.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
