Common Questions
To be considered for admission, you must have completed a Bachelor of Nursing with a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of at least 65 in all level three or four Deakin units (or in final year units for awards from other providers). You must also meet English language proficiency requirements, such as an IELTS overall score of 6.5 (with no band score less than 6.0) or a VCE English study score of at least 30 in EAL or 25 in any other English.
The course takes 1 year full-time or the part-time equivalent. As a full-time student, you will study four credit points per semester across two semesters. Part-time students may complete in less than four semesters — please contact your course enrolment officer for details. Note that part-time enrolment is not available to international students.
The School of Nursing and Midwifery offers research in areas influencing quality and patient safety in health care. These include: clinical risk and symptom management, chronic disease management, effective health delivery, health care ethics, decision making, aged care, midwifery and translational research. The School conducts its research through the Centre for Quality and Patient Safety Research (QPS).
Yes. Students who achieve a high-grade Honours result can apply for credit for the research component if they decide to progress to a masters degree. A high-grade Honours result also gives students the option of applying for entry to a PhD program.
The estimated tuition fee for a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) is $6,081 for 1 year full-time (HECS). This figure is provided as a guide only and represents the typical first-year tuition fees.
