About This Course

The Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Business will prepare you to meet the evolving business management expectations of contemporary health services. Health is increasingly seen as a business, and registered nurses are moving from bedside care into middle management roles early in their careers, where they are expected to take leadership roles in multi-disciplinary teams. As a nurse, you will be required to contribute to the success of that business through effective management of staff and financial resources.

The double degree requires 350 credit points: 210 credit points of Bachelor of Nursing units - 60 credit points of interdisciplinary learning, 90 credit points of nursing theory and 60 credit points of clinical nursing practice - plus 120 credit points of business specified units and 20 credit points of University Core Curriculum units. Business study spans financial literacy, marketing essentials, managing people and organisations, information technology, economics, product marketing and innovation, organisational behaviour and entrepreneurship, alongside nursing units in surgical, mental health, medical and aged-care nursing.

Clinical placements are undertaken for the nursing component only, across a variety of clinical units in hospitals and community facilities, so that theory is integrated with practical workplace experience; students must also complete the Faculty of Health Sciences pre-placement requirements. The double degree is accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council and approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, and eligible graduates can apply for registration as a nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. An honours year is available to meritorious students with a grade point average of 5.5 who meet the admission requirements for the Bachelor of Nursing (Honours).

General Requirements

Domestic students

An applicant must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites at year 12 level, or equivalent:
- New South Wales: Assumed knowledge - Nil
- Queensland: Assumed knowledge - English (Units 3 & 4, C)
- Victoria: Units 3 and 4 - a study score of at least 25 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL
Indicative ATAR: 65.00 (Melbourne), 70.00 (North Sydney)
Applicants with higher education study must still meet the minimum entry requirements and subject prerequisites. Applicants who have completed at least two units of AQF-recognised study at bachelor level or above are assigned a new selection rank reflecting their study level, duration and grade point average, and prior study or relevant work experience may attract credit or recognition of prior learning.
ACU also assesses applicants on recent secondary education, prior VET study, and work and life experience.

Applicants require the equivalent of an Australian Year 12 Certificate and must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy. The requirement ACU lists is a recognised international high school qualification, together with the year 12 subject prerequisites set out above.
