Common Questions
Students graduate career-ready with 920 hours of work placements in both nursing and public health and health promotion settings. Nursing placements begin soon after commencement of the course across settings including acute/sub-acute care, medical and surgical care, paediatrics, aged care, rehabilitation, community nursing, and mental health nursing. The Health Practicum unit also requires a minimum of 120 hours of work experience in a health-related agency.
All students must complete a Police Record Check prior to professional experience placements in each calendar year of their course, a Working with Children Check at the commencement of their course (in accordance with the Worker Screening Act 2020), and declare their immunisation status to satisfy the requirements of health organisations. Students who fail to obtain these checks prior to placement will not be able to undertake professional experience placement, which will impede progress in the course.
No — the course is only available to students on a full-time basis. It is available at the Burwood (Melbourne) and Waterfront (Geelong) campuses, with intake commencing in Trimester 1 (March). Note that students enrolled at the Waterfront (Geelong) campus will be required to take units associated with the Bachelor of Public Health and Health Promotion at Waurn Ponds (Geelong) or online.
Students who do not complete the full Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Public Health and Health Promotion have two alternative exit options: the Bachelor of Nursing (H326) or the Bachelor of Public Health and Health Promotion (H313).
The lowest selection rank (ATAR) based on 2026 early and first round VTAC offers (including relevant adjustment factors) is 80.5 at Burwood (Melbourne), while the Waterfront (Geelong) campus is listed as NP (Unpublished). Deakin Guaranteed ATAR — which offers guaranteed admission at a lower ATAR for eligible students — is 71 at Burwood (Melbourne) and 65 at Waterfront (Geelong). Selection is based on a holistic consideration of academic merit, work experience, likelihood of success, and other factors, and meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
