Yes. The Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics (Honours) has full accreditation with Dietitians Australia (DA), making all graduates eligible for the credential of Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD). The course also meets the requirements of the Nutrition Society of Australia (NSA) for graduates to register as nutrition scientists, following 3 years of relevant work experience after graduation.
In the final year of the degree, you will complete 800 hours of professional placement (20 weeks at 40 hours per week) in general and specialist hospitals in local, regional and rural areas, as well as in a variety of community and industry settings. You will also complete 20 weeks of research. Before commencing placement within a NSW Health facility, you must meet NSW Health's mandatory requirements for a police check, code of conduct, and immunisation/vaccination.
The minimum score for guaranteed entry (or for consideration if this course has limited places) is a Selection Rank of 90. Your Selection Rank is your ATAR or IB Combined Rank plus any adjustments you are eligible to receive. The equivalent IBAS is 35.25.
UOW assumes students will have studied any two units of English, any two units of Mathematics, and any two units of Science. Ideally, students will have studied Mathematics Standard 2 and any four units of Science. Students who have not completed Chemistry and/or Biology in the HSC (or equivalent) are strongly recommended to enrol in bridging courses offered in February each year.
Graduates can pursue a wide range of careers including Clinical Dietitian, Food Industry Dietitian, Food Policy and Regulations Officer, Food Quality and Safety Officer, Food Service Dietitian, Food Trends Analyst, Health Coach, Health Communications and Media, Health Policy Development Officer, Health Promotions Officer, Private Practice Dietitian, Product Developer, Public Health or Community Nutritionist, Recipe Developer, Registered Nutritionist, Research Dietitian, Sports Dietitian, and Wellness Advisor.
