Yes. This course can lead to the Master of Dietetics, with around 60% of places typically offered to Deakin graduates who complete the prerequisite elective units. Students can choose to study the prerequisite subjects during their bachelor degree, which include units such as Physiology of Human Growth and Development (HSN107), Integrated Human Physiology (HSE208), Chemistry for the Professional Sciences (SLE155), Biochemistry (SLE212), and Biochemical Metabolism (SLE222).
You will complete at least 75 hours of industry placement through the Food and Nutrition Practicum unit (HSN311) in your final year. Additionally, the course features food preparation, food analysis and sensory labs modelled on commercial laboratories, providing hands-on, real-world experience to prepare you for the workplace.
Applicants are required to hold a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) for the relevant state prior to undertaking placements as part of this course. They are also required to hold a valid National Police Record Check for placements. Further information and guidance will be provided to students when they enrol into their placement unit.
The recommended major sequence is Food Innovation. Alternative major sequences available include: Disability and Inclusion, Exercise Science, Family, Society and Health, Health Promotion, Physical Activity and Health, and Psychology. Students can also choose majors from other Deakin courses including the Bachelor of Health Sciences, Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Arts, and Bachelor of Science, subject to unit and course rules and approval from a Course Adviser.
The Bachelor of Nutrition Science is offered at the Burwood (Melbourne) campus with two intake periods: Trimester 1 starting in March and Trimester 2 starting in July. Direct applications to Deakin for Trimester 2 2026 close on 21 June 2026.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
