Bachelor of Nutrition Science (Honours)

In the Bachelor of Nutrition Science (Honours) you develop an understanding of ethical research design, practice and analysis within a nutrition and food science research setting. That knowledge is then incorporated into an original and independent research project conducted under the supervision of academic staff and/or industry professionals with expertise in the field. In an increasingly competitive job market, an honours degree gives you an edge over candidates who have only an undergraduate degree.

The award sits at AQF Level 8 and totals 80 credit points: 30 credit points of coursework units and 50 credit points of thesis units. The coursework covers Research Methods in Biomedical and Health Sciences Research, Communicating Research in Biomedical and Health Sciences, and a choice between Qualitative Research Methods in Health Science or Statistics for Biomedical and Health Sciences Research; these units are delivered online scheduled, while the honours thesis units are multi-mode.

Full-time students move through four ACU Terms, taking Honours Thesis Part A in Term 2 and the 40 credit point Honours Thesis Part B over Terms 3 and 4. Part-time students spread the same coursework over two years and complete the thesis as two 20 credit point units, Honours Thesis Parts C and D. Progress through the thesis component is closely monitored by each student's research supervisor, and students are advised by the Course Adviser and bound by decisions of the School Committee.

The course is offered at the Blacktown, Melbourne, North Sydney and Strathfield campuses, and graduates are eligible to apply for postgraduate studies in nutrition and dietetics or in high performance sport, or further study in other allied health professions.
