About This Course

Nutrition Science provides an extensive knowledge and skills base in the scientific principles that underpin the study of food and nutrition, to promote health and optimal nutrition in individuals and the wider community, and to apply that knowledge in an ethical and respectful manner. The degree promotes the relationship between food, nutrition and health as a major contributor to wellbeing and disease prevention through the lifespan. The Bachelor of Business is a general business degree without specialisation in a particular subject area, structured around five business foundation units common to other undergraduate business courses and a further seven units that build your knowledge in areas such as finance, marketing, economics and management. Combining the two degrees enables graduates to use their knowledge and skills in industry, the public service or in small business enterprises.

The double degree totals 320 credit points: 120 credit points of specified Bachelor of Business units, 170 credit points of specified Bachelor of Nutrition Science units, 20 credit points of University Core Curriculum units and 10 credit points from Community Engagement units. In the community engagement unit you undertake voluntary work within a not-for-profit organisation over a period of 35 to 70 hours, or you may instead select a Faculty of Health Sciences community engagement unit working in a selected public sector or non-profit community organisation.

Graduates are eligible to apply for registration as a nutritionist with the Nutrition Society of Australia, and the degree meets the academic qualifications required for Professional Membership of the Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology. All business courses in ACU's Peter Faber Business School hold AACSB international accreditation.

General Requirements

Domestic students

An applicant must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites at year 12 level, or equivalent:
- New South Wales: Assumed knowledge - English (Advanced or Standard) (Band 3) or English as a Second Language (Band 4)
- Victoria: Units 3 and 4 - a study score of at least 25 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or 25 in any other English
Indicative ATAR: 60.00 (Melbourne), 60.00 (North Sydney)
Applicants with higher education study must still meet the minimum entry requirements and subject prerequisites. Applicants who have completed at least two units of AQF-recognised study at bachelor level or above are assigned a new selection rank reflecting their study level, duration and grade point average, and prior study or relevant work experience may attract credit or recognition of prior learning.
Graduates of TAFE and other VET providers holding a cognate certificate, diploma or advanced diploma may be eligible to receive advanced standing for some units, determined on a course-by-course basis.

International students

International applicants need the equivalent of an Australian Year 12 Certificate. They must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy, including the English Language Proficiency requirements.
International students completing an Australian Year 12 qualification (either outside or in Australia), an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, or a New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 3 must apply for admission through their local Tertiary Admission Centre (TAC) and are assessed on their performance in those studies, that is on their ATAR or equivalent.
