In second and third year, you'll be given three months of supervised clinical experience with an emergency ambulance service in rural or metropolitan NSW or the ACT. You'll also have a chance to take up an international clinical placement, or short placements in the private paramedicine industry, mental health services, and community and primary healthcare.
Students have access to a 360-degree immersive space that allows them to practice and be examined in a content-generated environment with the use of projected images and recorded sounds. There is also a state-of-the-art Paramedicine building with large teaching spaces, simulation rooms, debrief rooms, and an immersive simulation lab with control room, offering group-based scenario learning with brand new technology.
The assumed knowledge required is any 2 units of English and Mathematics, with Biology recommended as a prior study. The ATAR requirement is 90. Students must also meet NSW Health Legislative Pre-requisites, including obtaining a National Police Check, a NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC), a current approved first aid certificate, and evidence of vaccination history, all of which are assessed from the first year of study.
The Bachelor of Paramedicine is taught at the Campbelltown campus of Western Sydney University. The next start date is 01 March 2027, and the program is offered full time over 3 years.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Paramedicine will have the required skills to work in an ambulance service, the private paramedical industry, or the defence forces. The program prepares you for out-of-hospital care to patients of all ages, dealing with health complaints that range from minor to critical.
