JCU's Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) includes 644 hours of placement, which is the highest number of clinical placement hours for any undergraduate pharmacy degree within Australia. Placements begin from Year 1 and span diverse settings including community pharmacies, hospitals, and low-resource settings in regional, remote, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
The minimum adjusted ATAR required for entry is 76. Subject prerequisites include English (Units 3/4, C) and General Mathematics (Units 3/4, C). Chemistry (Units 3/4, C) is recommended knowledge. Students who did not study chemistry at secondary school will be required to complete Preparatory Chemistry as part of their degree. Applicants with an ATAR of 90 and above are guaranteed entry with all subject prerequisites waived, while those with an ATAR of 73 and above are guaranteed entry but must meet subject prerequisites.
Graduates can find employment as a community pharmacist, hospital pharmacist, work in primary care settings within multidisciplinary teams, work as a consultant pharmacist, industrial pharmacist, researcher or educator. They could also work in the Australian Defence Force, in drug development, in aged care facilities, health service management, government and much more. Graduates are eligible to apply for professional registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia through AHPRA.
The estimated annual Commonwealth Supported fee for a full-time study load is $9,537 (note this estimate is variable and subject to fluctuation depending on choice of elective subjects). The estimated annual tuition fee for a full-time study load is $31,710, plus the Student Services and Amenities fee. Fee deferral through HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP and scholarships are available for eligible students. Fees displayed are for 2026 and are subject to change in following years.
The Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) is available at three JCU campuses: Townsville, Cairns, and Mackay. All three locations commence in January. The course is offered full-time (3 years) or part-time (5 years).
