Bachelor of Philosophy/Bachelor of Laws (Honours)

The Bachelor of Philosophy/Bachelor of Laws (Honours) (BPhil/LLB(Hons)) is an Australian Catholic University double degree of 400 credit points with a minimum duration of five years full-time or equivalent part-time. The 2027 handbook lists four approved locations, Brisbane, Melbourne, North Sydney and Strathfield, and notes that for Sydney students the Philosophy units are taught at the Strathfield campus and the Law units at the North Sydney campus. The award combines units selected in accordance with the requirements for the Bachelor of Philosophy with 250 credit points selected in accordance with the requirements for the Bachelor of Laws. The Philosophy component consists of 70 credit points of Specified Philosophy units (Part A), 60 credit points of Philosophy elective units (Part B) and 20 credit points of Core Curriculum units (Part C). The Law component consists of 180 credit points of Law specified units (Part D), a 10 credit point Community Legal Engagement: Pro Bono unit (Part E), 20 credit points of Law elective units (Part F), the 10 credit point LAWS450 Legal Research and Methodology (Part G) and the 30 credit point LAWS451 Honours Thesis (Part H). To qualify for the honours award, at least four of the units taken from the Law specified and Law elective lists must be at level 4, and students must also complete at least 80 hours of zero credit point pro bono placement after finishing LAWS213 Community Engagement: Pro Bono. Students normally complete introductory 100-level units before undertaking second year units, and must complete designated second year units before progressing to third and fourth year 300 and 400-level units.
