About This Course

The Bachelor of Primary Education at The University of Notre Dame Australia is a four-year degree, offered full-time or part-time, designed to prepare graduates to teach primary-aged children in Catholic, independent and government schools across Australia. The program integrates educational theory with hands-on classroom practice across the key learning areas of the primary curriculum — English and literacy, Mathematics and numeracy, Science and Technology, the Arts, Health and Physical Education, the social sciences, and Religious Education — while focusing on the characteristics, development and individual needs of primary-aged learners.

A defining feature of the degree is its strong emphasis on professional experience: students complete 30 weeks (150 days) of supervised school-based placements, building confidence and refining their teaching practice ahead of graduation. Students can tailor their degree with a specialisation in Religious Education (making them eligible for accreditation to teach in Catholic schools), English Education, Mathematics Education, Service Learning and Social Justice (WA only), or Special and Inclusive Education.

The Reach Higher initiative also allows students in rural, regional or remote areas to complete the degree online via the Broome campus. The program is accredited with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia, qualifying graduates for registration in any Australian state or territory.

Fremantle (WA) campus

Applicants with recent Secondary Education: Indicative ATAR/Selection Rank of 70, or International Baccalaureate (IB) score of 25.
Applicants with Higher Education: successful completion of 4 subjects at undergraduate level or higher, or successful completion of the Notre Dame Tertiary Pathway Program (TPP) or an equivalent tertiary preparation program.
Applicants with VET study: successful completion of AQF Certificate IV or higher from an accredited provider (TAFE or RTO).
Applicants with Work and Life Experience (20+ years of age, 2+ years since secondary education): at least two years of relevant work experience (STAT may be required), or STAT scores of at least 135 (Multiple Choice) and 140 (Written English), or two Year 12 WACE/HSC exams at the required rank.
Experience Based Entry available for current Year 12 students combining academic background with relevant work experience.

Sydney (NSW) campus

Applicants with recent Secondary Education: Prescribed ATAR/Selection Rank, or equivalent International Baccalaureate (IB) score.
Applicants with Higher Education: successful completion of 4 subjects at undergraduate level or higher, or successful completion of the Notre Dame Tertiary Pathway Program (TPP) or an equivalent tertiary preparation program.
Applicants with VET study: successful completion of AQF Certificate IV or higher from an accredited provider (TAFE or RTO).
