Common Questions
To be eligible for progression into the fourth year (honours year), you must achieve a minimum distinction average (70%) in core psychology units at the third-year level. Due to limited places, the required average may be increased; however, students with an average of at least 75% are guaranteed a place in fourth year. Students who do not meet this standard will be eligible for the award of a Bachelor of Psychological Sciences, subject to completing the requirements of that award.
Yes, the course is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC). It is a first step towards becoming a registered psychologist and prepares graduates for postgraduate study in areas such as clinical, educational and developmental, or forensic psychology. Career opportunities include roles as social welfare consultants, medical researchers, child safety officers, health officers, clinical workers, and child development officers.
Swinburne is the only Victorian university with an MRI and MEG (magnetoencephalography) on campus — technologies used to study brain structure and activity — meaning teaching is informed by cutting-edge discoveries. The university is also ranked Top 250 in Psychology by the Times Higher Education World University Ranking by Subject 2023 and has been rated 5-stars for overall student experience and teaching quality.
For domestic students in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP), the yearly tuition fee is approximately $9,537 AUD, with a total course fee of approximately $38,148 AUD. The Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) for 2026 is $373 AUD. Eligible domestic students may access HECS-HELP to defer their fees. International student fees total approximately $43,850 AUD per year (indicative). All fees are subject to change.
Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is a guaranteed part of all Swinburne bachelor degrees. In the Bachelor of Psychology (Honours), you will complete an industry-linked research project and receive pre-professional training to give you a career head-start. The embedded work integrated learning also exposes you to real-world cases and applied learning throughout your studies.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
