Common Questions
RMIT University offers a range of Indigenous-specific services and supports through the Ngarara Willim Centre, including admission through the Indigenous Access Program, Indigenous-specific scholarships, tutoring, and other Indigenous-specific services. Students who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander are encouraged to contact the Ngarara Willim Centre to discuss available support and connect with the Indigenous student community.
Students can confirm their Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage by providing a confirmation letter signed by board members of a Land Council or cooperative, a letter from an incorporated Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander organisation, or a birth certificate along with a parent's confirmation of Aboriginality. If these documents are unavailable, students may complete an RMIT Statutory Declaration witnessed by an authorised witness, accompanied by an accepted supporting document such as a letter from a community organisation or Aboriginal Education Worker.
RMIT understands that the ongoing impacts of the Stolen Generations may mean that links to community and documentation proving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent have been lost. Students in this situation are encouraged to visit the AIATSIS Family History Kit for research assistance, connect with a Link-Up Organisation in their state or territory, or contact the Koorie Heritage Trust's Koorie Family History Service for support in obtaining relevant documentation.
For more information about Indigenous eligibility or if you require support, you can contact the Ngarara Willim Centre directly via email at ngarara.willim@rmit.edu.au or by phone on (03) 9925 4885.
Your Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander heritage is personal to you and you do not need a letter of confirmation simply to identify as an Indigenous Australian. However, documentation confirming your heritage is required as a condition of accessing Indigenous-specific services, programs, and scholarships at RMIT. All students who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, regardless of whether they can provide documentation, are encouraged to contact the Ngarara Willim Centre.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
