About This Course

Adelaide University's Bachelor of Public Health gives you the skills to shape healthier futures using an information-driven, people-first approach, working at the scale of whole populations rather than individual patients.
You explore the key concepts underpinning public health — the social, cultural, commercial and environmental factors that influence health across the lifespan — and learn about the determinants of health and the frameworks used to promote wellness, with specific attention to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The degree examines how public health initiatives prevent ill health and lead to longer, healthier lives.
First year introduces the Australian health system and diverse perspectives on health and wellbeing, along with foundational expertise in the use and analysis of data and how that data shapes health policy and initiatives. Second year builds on those frameworks as you learn to review and analyse evidence.
Technical skills run throughout: conducting research, analysing data, communicating findings, and developing and delivering health policy and promotion initiatives for diverse populations. You also explore how different groups define and experience health and wellbeing, both in Australia and globally, and build transferable skills in research, data analysis, communication and project management.
Electives let you focus on topics you care about, and you engage with real-world industry in a public health setting while studying.
The program totals 144 units — 72 units of core courses, 48 units of discipline courses, 6 units of work integrated learning and 18 to 24 units of electives — at the Adelaide City Campus.

• Vocational Education and Training (VET) — Completion of an award from a registered training organisation (RTO) at Certificate IV (AQF level 4) or higher.

• Work and life experience — Completion of an Adelaide University approved enabling, pathway or bridging program; OR A competitive result in the Skills for Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT); OR Qualify for special entry
