Common Questions
Students can choose from three majors: Environmental Health, Health Promotion, or Generalist. The Environmental Health Major focuses on assessing, monitoring and evaluating environmental health issues. The Health Promotion Major teaches students to initiate, manage and evaluate a health promotion project. The Generalist Major develops skills and knowledge across a broad range of public health topics.
Yes. Graduates with the Environmental Health major are entitled to become members of Environmental Health Australia (EHA) and qualify to work as an Environmental Health Officer in states with legislatory requirements, including Western Australia. Graduates with the Health Promotion major are eligible to apply to become a registered Health Promotion Practitioner through the International Union of Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE).
Yes, as a requirement of EHA accreditation, Environmental Health students are required to attend residential school for a number of units, specifically: PBHL12001 Communicable Diseases and Public Health, MBIO19012 Microbiology, ENVH12001 Food Safety, and ENVH13002 Environmental Health Risk Management.
You must complete 24 units (144 credits). The structure consists of 8 core units plus either one major (12 units) and one four-unit minor, or one major consisting of 16 units. A range of minors is available including Built Environment, Emergency and Disaster Management, Environmental Health, Health Promotion, Public Health Nutrition, Safety Science, and more.
