You will learn how to apply fundamental scientific knowledge to evaluate and mitigate the impacts of human activities on natural and managed ecosystems, including the built environment. The program covers multiple disciplines including biological and physical sciences, risk assessment, policy and management, with a focus on understanding how life interacts with water, soil and the atmosphere.
Western Sydney University offers access to cutting-edge, purpose-built facilities including a $30 million, state-of-the-art laboratory complex. These include Environmental and Occupational Health Labs, University Farm, a food science kitchen, sensory and food processing pilot plant, and advanced imaging and instrumentation labs. You will work with leading technology such as polarisation microscopy systems, the Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometer, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance facility, and confocal bio-imaging.
Depending on your major, graduates can apply for admission to the Royal Australian Chemical Institute, the Australian Society of Microbiology, the Australian Institute of Biology, the Australian Institute of Physics, the Australian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the Royal Zoological Society of New South Wales, and Environmental Health Australia.
The program is delivered at the Hawkesbury Campus of Western Sydney University. It takes 3 years to complete full time, and is also available part time. Upcoming intake dates include 20 July 2026 (Spring 2026), 01 March 2027 (Autumn 2027), and 19 July 2027 (Spring 2027).
Domestic students may be eligible for Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP), with an indicative annual fee from $11,885. International students are charged approximately AUD $39,631 per year. The CRICOS Code for this program is 041144M.
