This degree is unique in Australia and is designed to future-ready graduates to tackle the most challenging security problems facing Australia. It was developed in collaboration with the Defence Science and Technology Group within the Department of Defence and includes placements and projects in collaboration with the government and defence industry, with applicability well beyond defence.

Yes. The Bachelor of Engineering Technology degree is accredited by Engineers Australia at the level of engineering technologist. Engineering technology courses accredited by Engineers Australia are recognised internationally under the Sydney Accord. Graduates meet the academic requirements at the level of Engineering Technologist.

You will have the opportunity to undertake a 12-week industry placement as part of your degree, which enables you to work alongside professional engineers tackling real-world problems. You will also gain hands-on exposure to cutting-edge equipment and facilities at Flinders University's technology precinct at Tonsley, and undertake an integrated high-technology design consulting project.

First year covers fundamental science including mathematics, physics, programming, electronics and professional skills. Second year expands on this with engineering design, data science, quantum physics, classical physics and more programming. Third year includes electronic engineering (circuits, communication systems), advanced physics (electromagnetics, thermodynamics, nuclear physics), artificial intelligence methods, and electromagnetic technologies and security. The honours year includes a major project and industry placement, further study in quantum physics, solid state physics, optoelectronics, signal processing, engineering project management, and a capstone topic on systems and security in the information age.
