Yes. This course covers Part II of the Australian actuarial education system and is accredited by the Actuaries Institute. It is the only degree in Western Australia accredited by the Actuaries Institute (Australia).
To switch into this course from within Curtin, you need to have completed the Bachelor of Science (Actuarial Science) or equivalent and achieved a Course Weighted Average (CWA) of 75% or above. If transferring from another higher education provider, you must also have completed the equivalent degree, met the CWA of 75%, and gained recognition for completing at least 4 of 6 subjects required by the Foundation Program of the Actuaries Institute.
This course is one year full-time study. Two intakes are offered each year in March and August, though prospective students should note that places may not always be available for the August intake.
Graduates of this course can pursue careers in banking and finance, general insurance, health insurance, life insurance, risk management, and superannuation. The Actuaries Institute website provides further information on career pathways.
You will learn to employ a holistic approach to understand the context of a problem, apply professional capabilities to identify problems and develop effective solutions, engage with contemporary issues from multiple perspectives, apply discipline knowledge and critical thinking to challenging problems, demonstrate awareness of relevant global developments, access and interpret relevant material using appropriate computer software and the Actuarial Control Cycle approach, and collaborate with others in a manner consistent with professional practices relevant to industry, government and the wider community.
