Common Questions
Unlike the Bachelor of Science, which is more generalised, the Bachelor of Science (Advanced Mathematics) (Honours) has a strong focus on preparing you for a range of quantitative careers. It includes compulsory advanced maths coursework and offers specialised majors in Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics or Advanced Statistics.
Students can specialise in one of three majors: Applied Mathematics (covering topics such as Mathematical Modelling, Computational Methods for Finance, Differential Equations and Biomathematics), Pure Mathematics (covering Abstract Algebra, Higher Algebra, and Higher Topology and Differential Geometry), or Advanced Statistics (covering Statistical Methods in Social and Market Research, Higher Theory of Statistics, and Higher Linear Models).
In your honours year, you'll work closely with a supervisor on a real research project, while also undertaking advanced coursework. The honours year comprises 48 UOC and includes both a coursework and a thesis component. You'll grow your skills in problem-solving, critical thinking and independent research, setting you up for future study or work.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
