Common Questions
Yes, you can — with permission! Many students balance Honours with work or other commitments. Just chat with your Honours coordinator first — they'll help you work out a study plan that fits your schedule.
Because it's research-intensive and involves lab or fieldwork, Honours is taught on campus. But you'll have plenty of flexibility when it comes to your project design and supervision meetings.
You can choose from a range of specialisations including Biological Sciences (genetics, molecular biology and ecology), Environmental Sciences (climate systems, coasts and oceans, sustainability and ecosystem resilience), Forensic and Analytical Science (advanced chemistry and physics), Physics (fundamental principles governing matter, energy and the universe), Chemistry (chemical systems shaping technology, medicine and materials), and Palaeontology (reconstructing life from deep time).
An honours degree is an intensive, one-year research-focused qualification that builds on your undergraduate degree, whereas a master's degree is typically a broader postgraduate qualification. Honours is also the ideal launchpad for a PhD or research career, with the skills gained in independent project work, scientific reasoning and communication forming the foundation of success in higher degree research.
First, check your eligibility by ensuring you have a GPA of 5.0 or above in your bachelor's degree. Then contact the Honours coordinator to discuss your project and arrange supervision, and complete the Honours Project Proposal form with your Honours supervisor. Finally, submit your application directly to Flinders University through the online application system. Applications for 2026 are now open with commencement in Semester 1, 2026.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
