Second semester honours unit worth 48 credit points, weighted at 65% of the overall GPA grade for the Science Honours course. A single, final mark and grade is awarded at the completion of the course, with the grade allocated to this unit.
Common Questions
To attain the Bachelor of Science (Honours), students are required to complete 96 credit points consisting of two 48cp units: RBM4003 Science Honours 1 and RBM4004 Science Honours 2. Science Honours 1 is weighted 35% and Science Honours 2 is weighted 65% of the overall GPA grade. A single, final mark and grade is awarded at the completion of the course, with the grade allocated to the RBM4004 Science Honours 2 unit.
Applicants must have completed an Australian Bachelor degree (or equivalent) with major studies in a relevant discipline such as Biomedical Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Health Sciences, Nursing, Midwifery, Science, or Sport and Exercise Sciences, and must have achieved an average mark of at least 65 (Credit) or equivalent in their final year of undergraduate study. An applicant will ideally have attained a Distinction (D) or High Distinction (HD) in units related to their intended discipline of Honours study.
Students have access to modern laboratories including world class sport science facilities, health and biomedicine labs, a high altitude hotel, biomechanics and biochemistry labs, simulation facilities, and clinic trial facilities at hospitals in Sunshine and Footscray. Industry partnerships include the Western Bulldogs, Orygen and Headspace, VicHealth and Sport & Recreation Victoria, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, and Murdoch Children's Research Institute.
For eligible students, this course is offered as a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP), which is subsidised by the government. The indicative fee for a full-time student in 2026 is AU$9,537 per year. This fee is a guide only, based on a typical full-time study load, and does not include materials such as textbooks or the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF).
The honours degree prepares graduates for studies at the postgraduate master and PhD levels. It can also lead to employment opportunities in government research institutes, healthcare, medical research and development, the sustainable food industry, the biotechnology industry, and ecology and environmental science organisations.
