Common Questions
This international dual degree involves three years of study at ECU (years 1, 2 and 4) on the Joondalup Campus in Perth, and one year in the UK at the University of Portsmouth (year 3). Upon completion, graduates receive both a Bachelor of Science (International Exercise and Sports Science) from ECU and a BSc (Hons) Sport, Health, and Exercise Sciences from the University of Portsmouth.
You can specialise in one of the following majors: Football Performance, Health Promotion, Nutrition, Nutrition and Bioscience, Occupational Safety and Health, or Sport Business. Students who select Health Promotion, Nutrition, and Occupational Safety and Health majors are able to study some units on campus at ECU South West, though remaining units must be completed at the Joondalup campus.
Students are required to complete 2 mandatory practicum units: SPS3112 (140 hours) and SPS2524 Exercise Delivery (30 hours). The Recommended Elective SPS3604 also includes 30 hours of work placement. Prior to external placement, students must submit evidence of a Working with Children Check (where necessary) and a Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) First Aid Certificate. A pass grade for the practicum component is required to achieve a pass for the relevant core unit.
The estimated first year indicative fee is AUD $11,550 under the Commonwealth supported places scheme. ECU fees are adjusted annually, and you pay for the individual units you enrol in rather than an overall course fee, so the total cost will vary depending on what units you choose. ECU also has a scholarship program that provides many opportunities each year to students.
Graduates have successful careers in specialty areas such as exercise science, sports administration, sports coaching, strength and conditioning, corporate fitness, workplace health, sports development and sports performance analysis. Possible job titles include Exercise Scientist, Exercise Physiologist, Biomechanist, Personal Trainer, Sports Coach, Sport & Exercise Scientist, Researcher, Strength & Conditioning Coach, Sports Medicine Trainer, and Health & Safety Injury Management Coordinator. The course also provides a pathway to further study in areas such as clinical exercise physiology, education, dietetics and strength and conditioning coaching.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
