About This Course

This is a comprehensive course that includes biological, psychosocial and nursing sciences; advanced clinical skill development; and simulated practice and fieldwork. Your studies will focus on developing the knowledge and skills needed for our changing healthcare system. When you graduate, you can become a registered nurse with the expertise to deliver comprehensive care to patients in diverse healthcare settings.

Minimum ATAR/Selection Rank: 70
Essential prerequisite subjects: None
Desirable subjects: Human Biology ATAR and Integrated Science ATAR
English language requirements (IELTS Academic): Writing 7, Speaking 7, Reading 7, Listening 7, Overall band score 7
Fieldwork requirements: Student declaration, AHPRA registration, Criminal record screening and clearance, Immunisation, Hand hygiene, Manual handling
VET/TAFE pathway: AQF Certificate IV (with separate evidence of English language proficiency), AQF Diploma, or AQF Advanced Diploma
STAT is not accepted as an entry pathway
Note: Only applications from current Registered Nurses can be accepted for the mid-year (July) intake
Course switching is not available for the Enrolled Nurse to Registered Nurse Stream, Registered Nurse Conversion - Australian Registration Nurse Stream, or Registered Nurse Conversion - Non-Australian Registration Nurse Stream

What professional registration can I obtain after completing this course?

When you graduate, you are eligible to apply for registration to become a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

What kind of practical experience will I gain during this course?

You'll develop strong, practical skills through supervised clinical placements in hospital, private practice, aged care, rural health, and community and mental health settings. You may also have the opportunity for international study experiences.

Are there alternative streams available for enrolled or registered nurses?

Yes. If you are currently a qualified enrolled or registered nurse, the following options are available: Enrolled Nurse to Registered Nurse stream (domestic only), Registered Nurse Conversion – Australian Registration Nurse stream (domestic and international), and Registered Nurse Conversion – Non-Registration Nurse stream (domestic only). To study one of these streams, apply for the Bachelor of Science (Nursing) and for credit for recognised learning (CRL). Note that Kalgoorlie and Albany locations offer the Enrolled Nurse to Registered Nurse stream only.

Will the Bachelor of Science (Nursing) continue to be offered in the future?

Please be aware, the Nursing comprehensive stream will be replaced by the new Advanced Nursing course from 2026. The Enrolled Nurse to Registered Nurse and Registered Nurse Conversion streams will be available via the Bachelor of Science (Advanced Nursing) from 2027; before 2027, both streams can be studied only via the Bachelor of Science (Nursing).

What are the English language requirements for this course?

The IELTS Academic (International English Language Testing System) requirements for this course are: Writing 7, Speaking 7, Reading 7, Listening 7, and an Overall band score of 7. If your English level does not yet meet the requirement, you can study through Curtin English, the university's dedicated language school.
