About This Course

This double degree combines practical, numeracy and computer skills with the critical and creative thinking skills, effective communication and problem-solving skills learned from studying the arts and humanities. When combined, the skills and knowledge from these two fields can place you in a key position to work with the complex challenges we will face in the future. Throughout your Bachelor of Science degree, you will learn how scientific and technological advances increase the quality of our lives and how the scientific community responds to societal needs, natural hazards and global challenges. The Bachelor of Arts will equip you for today's rapidly changing world. You will develop skills and capabilities necessary to understand how the world has come to be the way it is today. A double degree at UOW provides a world-class qualification in less time and at less cost than studying the two degrees separately. Having a double degree will give you a competitive advantage in a crowded job market.

Requirements

Minimum Selection Rank of 70 (ATAR or IB Combined Rank plus any eligible adjustments) for guaranteed entry
Assumed Knowledge: any two units of English, any two units of Mathematics, and any two units of Science
Recommended Studies: English Advanced and any four units of Science
Students who have not completed any science subjects in the HSC (or equivalent) are strongly encouraged to enrol in bridging courses offered in February each year
Other accepted high-school qualifications include GCE A-Levels, New Zealand NCEA Level 3, and overseas senior secondary qualifications comparable to Australian qualifications
For Higher Education Study applicants: must have completed at least half a year of full-time study (or part-time equivalent) at a Bachelor's degree level or higher
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants may apply through Woolyungah Indigenous Centre's Indigenous Admissions Program (IAP)
All courses are taught in English; if English is not your first language, you must meet the University's English Language Requirements (accepted tests include IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Cambridge, and OET)
Domestic applicants with overseas qualifications must provide academic records, and their course must be at least one-sixth complete; non-English documents must include an official English translation

How long does the Bachelor of Science (SMAH) - Bachelor of Arts take to complete?

The double degree takes 4.5 years of full-time study, or the part-time equivalent. UOW notes that this provides a world-class qualification in less time and at less cost than studying the two degrees separately.

What is the minimum ATAR required to get into this double degree?

The minimum Selection Rank for guaranteed entry is 70. Your Selection Rank is your ATAR or IB Combined Rank plus any adjustments you are eligible to receive, such as adjustments based on subjects studied, school location, or equity and access schemes.

When can I start this course and what are the application deadlines?

The course is available to start in Autumn 2026 (session start 2 March 2026) or Spring 2026 (session start 27 July 2026). For Autumn 2026, domestic UAC Early Bird applications close 30 September 2025, direct applications close 31 December 2025, and UAC final round closes 29 January 2026. For Spring 2026, direct domestic applications close 31 May 2026 and UAC final round closes 2 July 2026.

Are Commonwealth Supported Places available for this course?

Yes, Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) are available for this course. For eligible domestic students, Australian government funding will contribute towards tuition fees. The remaining proportion, known as a student contribution, will depend on when you begin study (enrolment year) and study area.
