About This Course

The Bachelor of Social and Environmental Sustainability/Bachelor of Global Studies (BSocEnvSustain/BGlobSt) is an Australian Catholic University double degree of 320 credit points with a minimum duration of four years full-time or equivalent part-time. The 2026 handbook lists Melbourne and Strathfield as approved locations and notes that international intakes are offered only on the Melbourne campus. To qualify for the degree a student completes 320 credit points from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of 170 credit points from the Bachelor of Social and Environmental Sustainability (Part A), made up of 160 credit points of specified units and 10 credit points of elective units; 120 credit points from the Bachelor of Global Studies (Part B), made up of 40 credit points of Global Studies specified units, 40 credit points of Global Studies elective units or one minor, and 40 credit points of Global Studies International Experience units; and 30 credit points of Core Curriculum and Community Engagement units (Part C). Named units in the schedule include Environmental Humanities, Environmental Economics, Exploring Natural Environments, Exploring Human Environments, Introduction to Sociology, Global Society and Change, Literature and the Environment, Climate Change: Past, Present and Future, Unsustainable: A Global History of Consumption, Environmental Sociology and Sustainable Cities and Communities. Students normally complete 100-level units before undertaking related 200-level units, and 200-level units before undertaking related 300-level units. The handbook also sets out exit points: students who have met the requirements of the non-award course Certificate in Liberal Studies, the Diploma in Liberal Arts or the Bachelor of Social and Environmental Sustainability can exit with that award.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Domestic students

To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites at year 12, or equivalent:
- New South Wales: Assumed knowledge — 2 units of English (any) (Band 3)
- Victoria: Prerequisites — Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or 20 in any other English
An applicant must also comply with ACU's Admission to Coursework Programs Policy, which includes meeting a minimum ATAR requirement.

International students

ACU's handbook states no separate international academic requirement for this course. International applicants must meet the same year 12 prerequisites as domestic applicants, and must also meet the English Language Proficiency requirements as defined in the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
