Bachelor of Social Work (Honours)

Learn how to support individuals and families while challenging the social, political and economic structures that shape people’s lives.

You’ll learn to work alongside individuals, families and communities experiencing marginalisation. You will analyse the structural forces behind poverty, gender inequality, racism and colonialism. This program has a strong feminist foundation. You’ll explore how gender, class, race, disability, sexuality and colonial histories intersect. You will develop the skills to challenge discrimination and promote equity in practice. You’ll also engage with Indigenous knowledges and histories. This program emphasises culturally safe, trauma-informed and community-led practice. Throughout the degree, you will learn to: You will study courses which include an integrated approach to theory, practice and social work values. Complete core courses in subject areas that further enrich your expertise in social work like: You will also choose from a wide range of electives to extend and complement your core studies in social work. Students are given the opportunity to undertake career-ready placements with rewarding fieldwork opportunities over 1,000 hours of supervised field placements. During this placement students will be engaged in work in social work focused organisations including government departments, health facilities, family and community services, hospitals, community organisations etc. The Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) has been accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers.As an undergraduate student you can join the Australian Association of Social Workers as a student member and become a graduate or full member when you graduate.
