You will complete over 1,000 hours of hands-on professional placement and practical experience. Field placements are applied in your third and fourth years, where you learn from leading social workers and build effective relationships with diverse cultures, including rural, remote and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Yes, the Bachelor of Social Work at JCU is nationally accredited. Graduates of this course are eligible for full membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), and the degree is recognised for social work practice in Queensland and across Australia.
The minimum adjusted ATAR required for entry is 62, and applicants must have completed English (Units 3/4, C) as a prerequisite subject. Applicants with an ATAR of 73 and above are guaranteed entry provided they meet subject prerequisites, while those with an ATAR of 90 and above are guaranteed entry with all prerequisites waived. Non-school leavers can have qualifications and work experience assessed for an equivalent score.
Yes, the course is available online as well as on-campus at JCU Townsville and JCU Cairns. Online students should note that some compulsory on-campus attendance is required. Intakes commence in January, May, and September across all study modes.
Yes, JCU offers credit for a range of Diploma qualifications. For example, holders of the Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management, Diploma of Alcohol and Other Drugs, Diploma of Community Services, Diploma of Counselling, Diploma of Mental Health, Diploma of Youth Work, and others may receive up to 8 subjects (or one year full-time equivalent study) of credit.
