Yes, the Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) is fully accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). It is an entry qualification into the social work profession and has been determined to meet the Australian Social Work Education and Accreditation Standards (ASWEAS). Graduates are eligible for membership of the AASW, which is required by many employers.
This course requires completion of 500 hours of compulsory work-based placements in each of the final two years, for a total of 1000 hours over 104 weeks (10 hours per week). These placements allow you to practise your skills with real people in real-world situations.
The Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) is an alternative final year of study for high achieving students who have demonstrated excellence in the first three years of the Bachelor of Social Work (347) degree. The honours year specifically develops skills in research design and methodology, allowing students to undertake a research project in connection with their final-year professional placement.
The Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) is offered at the Wollongong and Shoalhaven campuses of the University of Wollongong, with on-campus delivery.
For the Autumn 2026 intake, the application deadlines are: UAC Early Bird (Domestic) — 30 September 2025; International — 9 December 2025; Domestic (direct) — 31 December 2025; and Domestic (UAC final round) — 29 January 2026. The session starts on 2 March 2026.
