About This Course

This Combined Bachelor's and Master's (CBM) course is designed to provide a holistic understanding of the use of exercise as a modality in the treatment of musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, metabolic and other chronic and complex conditions. This course will prepare you for a career in public health research or practice. By completing this Combined Bachelor's and Master's course you will graduate with both a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Sciences and a Master of Public Health.

Can I exit the program early without completing the full four years?

Yes. If you decide not to continue in the CBM, you can exit after three years with a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Sciences (Advanced). Note that the Advanced Bachelor Degree is available only as a CBM exit award — it is not offered for direct enrolment and is not awarded on completion of the full CBM.

What professional accreditation will I be eligible for after completing this course?

The Sport Science, Exercise and Health major in any course leading to a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Sciences or Bachelor of Philosophy is accredited by Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA). Graduates will be eligible to apply as an accredited exercise scientist.

What does the Master of Public Health component of this course cover?

The final year of postgraduate study in the Master of Public Health provides a foundation in the research disciplines of epidemiology, biostatistics, health economics and health promotion, as well as the broader social context in which public health programs are planned, delivered and evaluated. It also includes a practicum component that provides real-world experience in public health professional settings.

What kind of practical experience will I gain during this course?

The course features an award-winning work-integrated learning program that provides opportunities to integrate theoretical knowledge in real-world professional settings and interact with industry professionals. Industry partnerships include sport organisations (AFL, WAFL, Western Force) and health placements (clinic and hospital). The Master of Public Health also includes a practicum, which offers experience in community-based or organisational public health work and helps build professional networks.
