About This Course

Learn how to manage community sport and recreation services with La Trobe's Bachelor of Sport and Recreation Management.

In this degree, you will explore topics such as program design, sport coaching, human resource management, marketing, delivery and evaluation, government policy and funding, facility and venue management, sport law, professional communication and more.

Build the skills to engage with communities, work with volunteers and support physical activity, community development and wellbeing. You'll apply your learning in the real world through placement opportunities with organisations such as local councils, sport associations, community groups and clubs.

If your goals or circumstances change, you may have the flexibility to complete an earlier qualification after one year with the Diploma of Sport and Recreation Management, or after two years with the Associate Degree of Sport and Recreation Management.

By studying the Bachelor of Sport and Recreation Management, you will learn how to:

design, deliver and evaluate community sport and recreation programs
assess community needs and plan services that support participation and wellbeing
interpret policy, funding, safety and legal requirements in sport and recreation
apply marketing and branding principles to sport and recreation programs
manage facility and venue operations for sport and recreation settings
engage with community groups, clubs, volunteers and local sport organisations.

General Requirements

Domestic students:

Recent secondary education (Year 12)

This course uses the ATAR as part of its selection considerations.

VCE: Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL.

Higher education, VET and work/life experience applicants

Subject proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.

Additional selection information

You may satisfy the academic requirements by completing the STAT multiple choice if you:
- are not currently studying an Australian Year 12 (or equivalent)
- have no prior secondary school (Year 12), VET studies, HE studies or relevant work experience that can be considered for entry, or
- do not meet the minimum academic requirements for the program. Refer to the La Trobe University STAT page page for further information.
Some prerequisites for this course can be satisfied by successfully completing specific subjects offered through Unilearn and achieving the minimum overall grade. Applicants who complete Unilearn studies must also submit a copy of their 'Statement of Achievement' and transcript to VTAC
