To attain the double degree of Bachelor of Youth Work/Bachelor of Sport Management, students are required to complete 384 credit points consisting of 384 credit points of Core Units, including 24 credit points of Capstone studies. The course is structured across four years of full-time study.
During your degree you'll receive practical experience in various areas of youth work through industry-based learning and professional development. The professional practice unit offers fieldwork placements including recreation and outdoor adventure programs, and the sports college also offers placement programs. Youth work students complete 200 hours of fieldwork placement, which can take place at any time throughout the academic year depending on organisation needs and student availability.
Yes. The degree is accredited by Youth Workers Australia (YWA) and by the Victorian State Community Correctional Services. VU also has partnerships and affiliations with professional and community sporting clubs and organisations including the Real Madrid Graduate School Universidad Europea, the Australian Sports Commission, the Australian Institute of Sport, and the Western Bulldogs Football Club.
This course is offered as a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) for eligible students (Australian citizens, permanent residents, and New Zealand citizens). The indicative fee for a full-time student in 2026 is AU$17,399 per year. This is a guide only based on a typical full-time study load and does not include materials or the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF). You may be able to get a HELP loan to pay for your studies, repaid through the tax system once you earn above the compulsory repayment threshold. VU also awards hundreds of scholarships annually worth millions of dollars combined.
If you have completed a Certificate IV in Youth Work at VU, you are guaranteed entry into this course. If you have completed a Diploma of Community Services, you are guaranteed entry with 48 credit points of credit, and the same applies if you have completed a Diploma of Youth Work. You may also be eligible for credit for skills and past study completed at another university or institution.
