The Bachelor of Sports Media at Holmesglen is a three-year, full-time degree (also available as a part-time, six-year course), which combines sport, media and communications. You will develop practical skills for careers across sports journalism, broadcasting, digital content, communications, and sports media.
You will develop skills in sports journalism, sports broadcasting, digital media production, social media, public relations, sports marketing, and more, with opportunities to apply your learning through practical projects and industry experience.
Previous professional media experience is not required. The degree develops your communication, broadcasting and digital media skills through practical and industry-focused learning.
Yes. You will complete a 228-hour industry internship in the third year of the degree, giving you the opportunity to gain real-world sports media experience, develop professional networks and prepare for employment.
The degree is delivered in partnership with the St Kilda Football Club, which gives Holmesglen students opportunities for industry engagement and exposure to an elite sporting environment. Holmesglen's internship connections also extend across major Australian sporting and media organisations.
Career opportunities include becoming a sports journalist, sports content writer, sports commentator, digital content producer, television or radio producer, social media coordinator, sports communications coordinator, sports marketing officer, and public relations roles.
Students have access to industry-standard media facilities at Holmesglen's Glen Waverley campus, including studios, a podcast room, editing areas, and computer laboratories.
The Bachelor of Sports Media is delivered at Holmesglen's Bourke Street campus in Melbourne and Glen Waverley campus.
