About This Course

The Bachelor of Sports Media prepares students for careers in the fast-paced sports and digital media industry. Designed to reflect today's evolving media landscape, the degree develops practical skills in sports media production, content creation and communication. Delivered in partnership with the St Kilda Football Club, the course provides strong industry engagement and internship opportunities. Graduates gain an industry-ready skill set suited to roles across sports journalism, broadcasting, digital media and social platforms, supported by valuable real-world experience and professional networks.

Based at the Bourke Street Melbourne and Glen Waverley campuses, the Bachelor of Sports Media develops practical and creative skills for today's fast-moving sports and digital media industry. Students combine industry-relevant theory with hands-on learning in sports journalism, broadcasting, media production, and digital content creation. Students have access to industry-standard media facilities at the Glen Waverley campus, including a dedicated television studio, radio studios, podcast room, editing suites, production control room, and high-specification computer laboratories that support practical and collaborative learning.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Domestic Students:

Recent Secondary Education (within the past two years)

Applicants with recent secondary education are those whose eligibility is based on the completion of VCE (or equivalent) within the current year or the previous two years.
Applicants must have successfully completed one of the following:
Units 3 and 4 in English other than EAL with a study score of at least 25
English as an Additional Language (EAL) with a study score of at least 30
ATAR will be considered as part of selection considerations.
Prior to enrolment, learners must complete a literacy and numeracy assessment, attend an interview, and provide certified copies of relevant qualifications.

Vocational Education and Training (VET) Study

Applicants who have completed an Australian VET Diploma or Advanced Diploma (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline will be considered for entry.

Higher Education Study

Applicants who have previously commenced or completed subjects within a higher education course are encouraged to apply.
Those transferring from another provider may apply for advanced standing, assessed individually with credit granted where equivalency can be demonstrated.

Work and Life Experience

Applicants with relevant work and life experience who completed secondary education more than two years prior, and have not undertaken VET or higher education study since, are encouraged to apply.
Relevant experience may include mature age entry, employment or professional experience, community involvement, or other life experience demonstrating a minimum of five years' work experience in the sports industry or a related occupation.

International Students:

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the commencement of the course
IELTS overall score of 6.0 (Academic) or equivalent English language test
Successful completion of VCE Year 12, or overseas equivalent
Completion of an Australian Diploma or Advanced Diploma (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline; or partial/completed higher education study at a recognised university or non-university higher education provider
All applications are assessed on an individual basis in accordance with Holmesglen's admissions policies.
