You will study specialist areas such as cadastral surveying, engineering surveying, geodesy and photogrammetry, as well as related areas such as hydrographic surveying, land development, mine surveying, planning and remote sensing. You will also become familiar with high-tech areas such as airborne and marine navigation, drone surveying, digital mapping, land and environmental management, laser scanning, satellite and space positioning and specialised alignment surveying.
Yes, graduates can apply for membership of the Geospatial Council of Australia and the WA Institute of Surveyors. To become a licensed surveyor requires an additional two years' training, and graduates can apply to the Land Surveyors Licensing Board of Western Australia to enter a practical training agreement. Further licensing in hydrographic surveying and mine surveying is also available.
The guaranteed ATAR for this course is 70. The essential prerequisite subject is Mathematics Applications ATAR, and the desirable subject is Mathematics Methods ATAR. If you are switching from a Curtin course, the Mathematics Applications ATAR prerequisite can be met with Curtin units MATH1013 Introductory Mathematics, MATH1014 Foundations of Calculus, or MATH1015 Linear Algebra.
You must meet Curtin's English language requirements. For IELTS Academic, you need an overall band score of 6, with a minimum of 6 in each of the Writing, Speaking, Reading, and Listening components. If you have completed a different English test or qualification, you may be able to use it to meet this requirement by checking accepted English tests on Curtin's English language requirements page.
The 2026 domestic indicative Commonwealth-supported first-year fee is $7,800. This is based on a first-year full-time study load of 200 credit points. Fees will vary depending on the units chosen and do not include other fees like administrative and incidental fees or the cost of textbooks. All Australian students studying an undergraduate degree are automatically awarded a Commonwealth supported place, which is subsidised by the Australian Government.
