Common Questions
The entry score for the Bachelor of Surveying (Honours) is ATAR 70.25. This refers to the lowest selection rank to which an offer was made (including consideration of any adjustment factors) for current and recent Year 12 applicants. You may be eligible for adjustment factors of up to 28 aggregate points, which can improve your selection rank.
You must have completed VCE Units 3 and 4 with a study score of at least 25 in English (other than EAL) or at least 27 in English as an Additional Language (EAL), or equivalent. You also need a study score of at least 20 in one of: Maths: General Mathematics, Maths: Mathematical Methods, or Maths: Specialist Mathematics.
The degree is a four-year full-time program. Intakes are available in February and July each year. It is described as the only four-year surveying degree in Victoria.
For Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) students, the annual student contribution amount for a standard full-time year of study is between AU$4,738 and AU$17,399 depending on the band of each subject. Surveying subjects fall into the band that includes Engineering and Surveying, which has a maximum annual student contribution of AU$9,537 (or AU$1,192 per standard 12 credit point course). The Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) is a maximum of AU$373 for 2026. HECS-HELP loans are available to eligible domestic students. The annual international fee is AU$43,200 (2026).
The degree includes 40 days of work experience, usually in the form of paid employment during vacation periods or as a part-time employee. RMIT can sometimes assist students in finding a placement. There is also a field camp, an exercise based at the Bundoora campus where you survey a park area and design an amphitheatre, and a final-year capstone research project that is industry approved.
More than 90% of graduates are employed within three months of completing this degree. Graduates can pursue careers as cadastral, hydrographic or engineering surveyors, photogrammetrists, geodesists or geospatial analysts in land development, construction, mining, and hydrographical survey sectors. Graduates are eligible to apply for membership of the Institution of Surveyors (Victoria), the Surveying & Spatial Sciences Institute of Australia (SSSI), and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
