Common Questions
No, the Bachelor of Theology does not prepare students for work as a pastor. Those interested in pastoral ministry should consider enrolment in the Bachelor of Ministry and Theology. This course also does not provide direct entrance into employed ministry of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
The Bachelor of Theology consists of 24 units and requires 144 credit points for completion. All units are worth six credit points unless otherwise stated. Students complete four units in each of six semesters in a full-time program or part-time equivalent. The 24 units include core units (covering biblical languages and health & wellbeing), discipline units forming a major in Biblical Studies and/or Theology, four minor units, and four elective units.
Applicants need to meet at least one entry requirement, including: a selection rank of at least 63 (ATAR plus adjustment factors), a minimum of 24 points in the International Baccalaureate Diploma, New Zealand Year 13 NCEA Level 3 results showing university entrance attainment, an appropriate score in the uniTEST and TOWA or STAT, an Australian Certificate IV (VET pathway), or at least 2 successfully completed units of a Bachelor's degree. Additionally, all applicants must agree to abide by Avondale Seminary's Acceptance of the Code of Professional Ethics.
Yes, this course is available to international students who meet the Australian government requirements for a student visa to reside in Australia for the duration of the course. It is also available online for international students residing outside Australia. Applicants whose primary language is not English must achieve an overall IELTS score of 6.5 with no sub-band less than 6.0, or meet one of the other ways outlined in Appendix 2 of the Admission Policy (HE).
The Bachelor of Theology will prepare students for work in a range of not-for-profit, church, government, and private organisations. It may also assist with entry into the Master of Arts or Bachelor of Ministry & Theology, providing a theological foundation and an opportunity for spiritual development. Avondale's strong church contacts and one-on-one support are designed to ensure students are work-ready upon graduation.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
