Bachelor of Theology / Bachelor of Laws (Honours)

The Bachelor of Theology/Bachelor of Laws (Honours) (BTheol/LLB(Hons)) is an Australian Catholic University double degree of 400 credit points with a minimum duration of five years full-time or equivalent part-time. The 2027 handbook lists Brisbane, Melbourne and North Sydney as approved locations, and notes that in Sydney the Law units are taken at North Sydney and the Theology units at Strathfield. To qualify for the double degrees a student completes 160 credit points from Bachelor of Theology units and 240 credit points selected in accordance with the requirements for the Bachelor of Laws. The theology component comprises an 80 credit point major in either Biblical Studies or Christian Thought (Part A), a 40 credit point minor in the alternative discipline (Part B), 20 credit points of Core Curriculum units (Part C), 10 credit points of theology elective units (Part D) and a 10 credit point Integrated Study unit (Part E). The law component comprises 180 credit points of Law specified units (Part F), 10 credit points of Law elective units (Part G), a 10 credit point Legal Research and Methodology unit (Part H), a 30 credit point Honours Thesis (Part I) and a 10 credit point Community Legal Engagement: Pro Bono unit (Part J). To qualify for the honours degree, at least four of the units taken from the Law specified and Law elective lists must be at level 4, and students must also complete at least 80 hours of zero credit point pro bono placement after completing LAWS213 Community Legal Engagement: Pro Bono. Students normally complete introductory 100-level units before undertaking advanced 200, 300 or 400-level units.
