About This Course

This double degree is an opportunity to explore questions of knowledge, identity and the significance of faith, while learning about different societies and cultures as you consider the challenges of global disruption. As part of your theology studies you will grow your understanding of the Catholic theological tradition with an ecumenical and inter-faith perspective, as well as its relationship to other traditions. The degree is also an opportunity to develop a global perspective: you take part in a study abroad experience in your third year to grow your professional skills in an international setting, with the chance to study at one of ACU's 60 partner institutions around the world or to gain international work experience through one of ACU's overseas internship partner organisations. To enhance your skillset even further, you can also opt to study a Diploma in Languages in Spanish or Italian alongside the double degree. To qualify for the award you complete 320 credit points. The theology component is 180 credit points, made up of an 80 credit point major in either biblical studies or Christian thought, a 40 credit point minor in the alternative discipline, a further minor or elective units, a community engagement unit and an integrated study unit. The global studies component is 120 credit points, made up of specified units, elective units or a minor, and international experience units. The remaining 20 credit points are Core Curriculum units. Students may exit with the Non-Award Undergraduate Certificate in Theology, the Diploma in Theology or the Diploma in Liberal Arts. This course is delivered flexibly and is offered at ACU's Brisbane, Melbourne and Strathfield campuses.

General Requirements

Domestic students

An applicant must comply with ACU's Admission to Coursework Programs Policy, which includes meeting a minimum ATAR requirement. To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites at Year 12, or equivalent:
- New South Wales: Assumed knowledge - 2 units of English (any) (Band 3)
- Queensland: Assumed knowledge - English (Units 3 & 4, C)
- Victoria: Prerequisites - Units 3 and 4, a study score of at least 25 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL
Indicative ATAR: 58.50 (Brisbane), 58.50 (Melbourne), 58.50 (Strathfield).
Applicants with higher education study: if you have completed at least two units of AQF-recognised study at bachelor level or above, ACU will assign you a new selection rank that reflects your study level, duration and grade point average, and prior study or relevant work experience may make you eligible for credit or recognition of prior learning.

International students

International applicants need the equivalent of an Australian Year 12 Certificate and must comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy, including the English Language Proficiency requirements. ACU sets no separate international academic requirement for this course beyond the Year 12 prerequisites above. International students completing an Australian Year 12 qualification (either outside or in Australia), an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, or a New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 3 must apply for admission through their local Tertiary Admission Centre and are assessed on their performance in those studies (their ATAR or equivalent).
ACU does not publish a course-specific IELTS or other English test score for this course.
International intakes are not offered in Brisbane; ACU lists the Melbourne and Strathfield campuses for international students.
