Common Questions
The degree is a vertically integrated combined program. In years one and two, you study core units from the Bachelor of Veterinary Biology, learning the fundamentals of biomedical and animal sciences that underpin veterinary sciences. Following successful completion of the first two years, you progress to a prescribed course of core units and placements under the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. In your final year, you complete a series of rotations as a veterinary student intern at both the University's Veterinary Teaching Hospitals and at off-campus partner institutions. Subject to meeting certain academic requirements, you may also have the option to complete honours in Veterinary Biology.
Yes, all applicants — including internal transfer applicants — are required to complete the Casper online testing (via Acuity Insights). For the 2026-2027 admissions cycle, available test dates include: Sunday 12 April 2026 at 10:00AM (AEST), Thursday 14 May 2026 at 7:00PM (AEST), Sunday 21 June 2026 at 10:00AM (AEST), Thursday 6 August 2026 at 7:00PM (AEST), Sunday 13 September 2026 at 10:00AM (AEST), Thursday 8 October 2026 at 7:00PM (AEDT), and Thursday 19 November 2026 at 7:00PM (AEDT). Applicants must register at least THREE days before their chosen test date and are required to pay a fee. Ensure you select the correct Casper Test (CSP-10400) for the 2026-2027 cycle.
Applicants are expected to have undertaken a minimum of 5 full days of work experience at veterinary establishments. Work experience must include animal handling, i.e. direct hands-on contact with animals (not just observation). If you have less than 5 days, your application may not be eligible to be assessed. If you feel there are special circumstances that have prevented you from completing the 5 days, you can explain this in the Additional Information section of the Commitment Statement.
No. Applicants cannot defer their offer into the Bachelor of Veterinary Biology and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. This course has limited places available, and not all applicants who meet the application deadline and requirements may be successful.
International applications for entry in 2027 will be open from mid-April 2026 and offers will be assessed across 4 rounds. The ranking dates — when eligible applications are reviewed and ranked by the Sydney School of Veterinary Science — are: Round 1 on 8 June 2026, Round 2 on 31 August 2026, Round 3 on 2 November 2026, and Round 4 on 14 December 2026. Once ranking is complete for each round, eligible applicants will receive offers and all considered applicants will be notified of the status of their application. Offers are subject to availability, and no further offers will be made once all places have been filled.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
