Common Questions
Yes, the course includes a compulsory Professional Practice unit (SLE301) that requires students to undertake at least 80 hours of work experience in a course-related host organisation. Elective units may also provide additional opportunities for Work Integrated Learning experiences.
As you advance through the course, you will be exposed to many different aspects of zoology, including physiological and behavioural adaptations to environmental change, disease ecology, animal sensory neurobiology and behaviour, field studies, and ecological and conservation genetics. Core units include Foundations of Zoology, Animal Diversity, Animal Behaviour, Vertebrate Structure and Function, Genetics and Genomics, Ecological and Conservation Genetics, Evolution, Sensory Ecology, Disease Ecology and Epidemiology, and Zoological and Wildlife Field Studies.
Students can choose from two available minor sequences: Applied Data Analytics and Indigenous Studies. Alternatively, students may choose 6 credit points of open elective units instead of a minor.
The estimated tuition fee for a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) is approximately $9,929 for the first year of full-time study. This is a guide only; the actual cost will vary depending on the units chosen, study load, time taken to complete the course, and any approved Recognition of Prior Learning.
Graduates can articulate into the Bachelor of Environmental Science (Honours) or the Bachelor of Science (Honours). Further postgraduate studies, including research training in Australia or overseas, can also lead to careers as a research scientist, museum curator, or university academic. The degree also prepares graduates for roles such as research assistants, environmental managers, field officers, pest management officers, and collection managers of aquaria and zoological gardens.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
