Bridging English

Bridging English (BE) is UQ College's most popular English language pathway program, packaged with a student's chosen University of Queensland (UQ) degree for students who meet the academic entry requirements for their UQ program but not yet the English language proficiency (ELP) requirements. Enrolment length ranges from 10 to 30 weeks depending on a student's ELP test results, with new intakes starting every five weeks. Students choose between two study options: BE Advantage, which finishes 5-6 weeks before the UQ semester starts and includes access to a 4-week BE Extension course if needed, or BE Standard, which finishes immediately before the UQ semester with no extension option. Classes run 20 contact hours per week, covering Listening and Speaking and Reading and Writing modules that build academic vocabulary, comprehension of complex texts, and clear, confident spoken and written communication. Assessment is held at the end of every five-week session, and students must achieve a minimum overall grade of 4 with a minimum grade of C in all four macro skills to meet the exit requirement for UQ entry (equivalent to an overall IELTS of 6.5 with no sub-band below 6.0). Students who do not yet hold an IELTS score of 5.0 or above should first complete UQ College's Integrated English program.
