Applicants must be aged 16 or over, complete a Language Literacy & Numeracy Assessment assessed by the Language Studies Department, and hold an academic level equivalent to Certificate I or primary school equivalent — or be currently employed in the parks and gardens industry or interested in a career in horticulture.

Graduates may work as a Farm, vineyard or orchard hand; Farm, vineyard or orchard worker; or Farm, vineyard or orchard labourer, with a focus on tree cropping, vegetable or berry production, grape growing, mushroom production, or a mixture in a mixed enterprise context.
Completion of fifteen (15) units is required. Topics include work health and safety, workplace communications, biosecurity procedures, soil testing, planting horticultural crops, irrigation, weed and pest treatment, pruning, plant propagation, operating utility vehicles, applying chemicals, and recognising plants.
