This qualification will be delivered over 78 weeks of training and assessment and 8 weeks of holidays. Note that supplementary classes will be scheduled, and attendance required, should additional classes be required to allow for classes missed as a result of public holidays, or other interruptions, and/or for students who require further training and/or reassessment or additional support.
A total of 28 units are required for the award of the AUR31520 – Certificate III in Automotive Diesel Engine Technology, comprising 14 core units and 14 elective units. Up to 5 of the elective units may be from a Certificate II qualification or above in this Training Package or another endorsed Training Package or accredited course.
Students will be provided with an apprentice toolkit, which must be brought to all practical classes. Students will also be provided with a uniform, which must be worn for all workshop days. Students must purchase their own safety boots and bring them to every practical class. A timetable will be provided identifying the days for workshop-based training and assessment.
Units are assessed individually via a range of methods, including Written Assessment, Verbal Questioning, and Practical Demonstrations observed directly by the assessor. The RTO also offers all students the opportunity to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfers (CT). Students can appeal any assessment decision by following the Complaints and Appeals Policy outlined in the Student Handbook and on the website.
Yes, the required textbook is Automotive Mechanics, 10th or 11th Edition, by Ed May and Les Simpson. Textbooks are available in the library for reading, however students are required to purchase their own copy from McGraw Hill to ensure constant access. OCT can assist in arranging textbook purchases through Student Support.
