Yes — you can choose the apprenticeship stream and get paid while you learn on site with your employer. The course is offered as an apprenticeship (code CPC33020) with an ongoing intake, and classes run in blocks approximately every 6 weeks, Monday to Thursday, 8:00am to 4:30pm at the Heidelberg campus.
Tuition fees vary depending on your eligibility for government funding. The government subsidised fee is $6,200, the concession fee is $1,240, and the non-subsidised fee is $26,900. There is also a materials fee of $15 and a maximum annual amenities fee of $180 (concession) or $260 (subsidised/non-subsidised), making total payable amounts of $1,435, $6,475, or $27,175 respectively. This training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding — contact Melbourne Polytechnic to find out if you're eligible for a government subsidy.
You will study at Melbourne Polytechnic's Heidelberg campus, which features Victoria's most technologically advanced building and construction facilities. You'll work on full-size projects with real world challenges, supported by qualified, industry-experienced instructors.
Successful completion of the Certificate III in Bricklaying and Blocklaying CPC33020 means you can progress in your career by enrolling in the Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) CPC40120, followed by the Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) CPC50220.
Assessment is delivered throughout the course using a combination of theory and practical-based tasks. The course is practical and covers essential skills including laying bricks and blocks, levelling, veneer construction, structural masonry, arch design and construction, and fireplace construction.
