Certificate III in Bricklaying and Blocklaying

The Certificate III in Bricklaying and Blocklaying (CPC33020) is a nationally recognised trade qualification offered by The Canberra Training School Pty. Ltd. (trading as CBTC – Canberra Business and Technology College), reflecting the trade-qualified role of a bricklayer, blocklayer or paver across residential, industrial and commercial contexts, including heritage and refractory work in both existing and new constructions. The course covers handling and preparing bricklaying and blocklaying materials, masonry veneer and cavity brick construction, laying masonry walls, corners, multi-thickness walls and piers, installing flashings and damp-proof courses, constructing masonry arches, curved walls and structural systems, setting out, levelling, scaffolding, and safe work at heights, alongside paving, decorative brickwork, tuck pointing and demolition electives. The course runs over 52 weeks in a blended delivery mode combining scheduled face-to-face classes with online learning activities, assessed through written assessment, projects, case studies and role plays. Students are expected to commit a minimum of 35-45 hours per week to class participation, homework, self-study, assignments and assessments. A supervised work placement gives students hands-on experience in mortar mixing, laying bricks and blocks, and interpreting construction plans on real building sites. The course is delivered across CBTC's Canberra (Braddon and Gungahlin) and Sydney (Bella Vista) campuses.
