Certificate III in Bricklaying and Blocklaying

The Certificate III in Bricklaying and Blocklaying (CPC33020) reflects the trade-qualified role of a bricklayer, blocklayer or paver, covering heritage bricklaying, refractory bricklaying, bricklaying, blocklaying and paving work in residential, industrial and commercial contexts, in both existing and new constructions. Occupational titles could include Bricklayer, Blocklayer and Paver. Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements vary between states and territories.

A total of 28 units (20 core and 8 electives) must be completed, covering handling and preparing bricklaying and blocklaying materials, masonry veneer and cavity brick construction, laying masonry walls, corners and multi-thickness walls, flashings and damp proof courses, masonry arches and curved walls, structural masonry systems, setting out, basic levelling, scaffolding, working safely at heights, reading plans and specifications, and construction work health and safety, with electives spanning decorative brickwork, tuck pointing, aerated autoclaved concrete products, paving and demolition.

Delivered face-to-face (classroom based) over 52 weeks — 48 study weeks plus 4 weeks of holidays, 20 hours per week in the classroom plus an estimated 5 hours per week of self-study — at Darwin Institute of Trade (DIT, RTO 41128, CRICOS 03609J)'s Parramatta NSW and North Melbourne VIC campuses. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is available to all students upon enrolment, and is particularly recommended for applicants who have worked in a relevant job role for at least 2 years.
