Requirements

Applicants must be 16 years and over at the time of course commencement.
Applicants are expected to have literacy and numeracy skills at Year 10 or Year 11 or Australian Core Skills Framework Level 2.
Any student under the age of 17 must provide a Transition from School form prior to undertaking this course, unless they have completed Year 12 or an equivalent qualification (AQF Level II or above), in which case a school exemption is not required.
Each student must complete a pre-training review as part of their application; literacy and numeracy skills will be evaluated and a separate assessment may be required.
Personal learning requirements apply — essential personal capabilities and skills required to successfully complete the course and be ready to work in the industry must be reviewed prior to applying.

Is this course eligible for Free TAFE?

Yes, this course is eligible for Free TAFE. Eligible Victorian students who elect to use their Free TAFE opportunity will not incur any tuition fees, however material and resources fees still apply. A materials fee of AUD $250.00 and an Education Levy of AUD $84.75 are charged at enrolment.

What are the class days and hours for this course?

Classes are held full-time on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9am to 4.30pm at the East Geelong Campus. Note that class times are indicative and may change before the course starts, and students may need to complete some self-paced learning and assessments outside class time.

What further study options are available after completing this course?

After completing this course, students can progress to the CPC33020 Certificate III in Bricklaying and Blocklaying. The Gordon advises that many courses offer pathways to higher qualifications within The Gordon and in some cases to university degrees, and your Gordon course may provide credit points which could reduce further study time.

How will students be assessed in this course?

Assessment in this course is based on questioning, observations, and practical demonstrations, reflecting the hands-on nature of bricklaying and masonry training.

Can I receive credit for prior learning or previous study when enrolling in this course?

Yes. If you have previously completed any of the units of competency relevant to this course, you may be eligible for Credit Transfer (CT). Any previous relevant experience may also qualify you for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). The Gordon encourages prospective students to find out more about CT or RPL before applying.
