Certificate III in Cabinet Making and Timber Technology

The MSF30322 Certificate III in Cabinet Making and Timber Technology is delivered by Bentley College in a classroom setting, 20 hours per week, over 52 weeks (44 study weeks plus 8 weeks of break). The course comprises 25 units of competency — 8 core and 17 elective — building foundational cabinet making and timber technology skills, including using furniture making hand and power tools, producing manual and computer-aided production drawings, preparing cutting lists from design and production documentation, making measurements and calculations, reading and interpreting work documents, environmentally sustainable work practices, and workplace communication and teamwork. Electives allow students to specialise further, covering timber jointing, operating static machines, determining cabinetry installation requirements, operating CNC machining and edge banding equipment, computer-aided drawing and design production, manufacturing door, window and frame components, preparing for cabinetry installation, planning kitchen and bathroom projects, job estimating and costing, and structured problem-solving. The course suits learners entering the cabinet making and furniture trade and requires proficiency with advanced calculators. Entry requires English proficiency at IELTS 6.0 or equivalent, results no more than 2 years old (or completion of General English at Upper Intermediate level or higher), suitable LLN skills, completion of Australian Year 10 or equivalent (or mature age), and a minimum age of 18. On completion, graduates are prepared for various roles across furniture and cabinet making jobs, and can progress into the MSF40222 Certificate IV in Furniture Design and Manufacturing, MSF50322 Diploma of Furniture Design and Manufacturing, or other Certificate IV and Diploma-level MSF qualifications.
