About This Course

Workers with this qualification have tradesperson-level skills in the manufacture and/or installation of products, including furniture and cabinetry, made from timber and other materials. They have core skills in tool use, measuring, drawing (including computer-aided design), interpreting work documentation, preparing cutting lists, communication, teamwork, and safe and environmentally sustainable work practices. They may have specialised skills in wood machining, cabinet and furniture making, kitchen and bathroom construction and installation, marine cabinetry, coopering or drafting. Work is in a defined range of skilled operations, usually within a range of broader activities involving established routines, methods and procedures, where some discretion and judgement is required in the selection of equipment, services or contingency measures. Individuals collaborate with others to achieve quality outcomes and take responsibility for their own work. They may have some limited responsibility for the work of others. Kitchen and bathroom installers must be licensed in some states, and induction training is required for those working on construction sites.

Requirements

English Language Requirement: Minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or PTE score of 47 or other accepted English Language Test Score. In the absence of formal English qualifications, Winslow College may proffer an English Placement Test.
Academic Requirement: No prior academic requirements apply for this qualification; however, Winslow College requires successful completion of Australian Equivalent Year 12 qualification or higher.
Age Requirement: All applicants must be aged 18 years or over at the time of applying for admission to the course.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) and Digital Literacy Requirement: Applicants will be required to undertake a LLN and Digital Literacy test to identify their capabilities prior to signing the Letter of Offer (LOO).
Course Specific Requirement: Due to the physical and practical nature of this course, students must be physically able to perform assessment tasks in a Cabinet Making and Timber Technology workshop and/or simulated environment. Students enrolling in this course are required to undertake a Pre-Course Physical Examination during Orientation.
Digital Literacy & Equipment: Applicants should have proficiency in digital literacy and MS Office skills (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Applicants should be in possession of their personal computer (minimum configuration: Intel Core i3 sixth generation or newer or equivalent; OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Professional x64; Memory: 4 GB RAM; Storage: 120 GB internal storage).
