Certificate III in Carpentry

This Certificate III in Carpentry (CPC30220) trains students to become qualified carpenters able to work across residential and commercial construction settings. Delivered as an apprenticeship over 48 months in an on-campus, part-time format at Mount Gambier, Port Augusta or Tonsley, the course combines trade training with paid on-the-job experience under a Contract of Training with an employer. Students learn to construct, install, finish and repair structures and fixtures using a wide range of tools, equipment and materials, including constructing and erecting wall and ceiling frames, installing windows and doors, building pitched and advanced roofs and eaves, erecting roof trusses, and installing flooring, lining and exterior cladding. The course also covers erecting and dismantling formwork for footings and slabs on the ground, basic levelling and setting out, reading and interpreting construction plans and drawings, and applying WHS requirements and risk control strategies on site. Across 27 core units and 7 elective units, students can extend their skills into areas such as bulkheads, wet area framing, dry wall fire-rated systems, elevated work platforms and power-actuated tools. Carpenters typically work on large structural projects on-site, including house frames, decking and pergolas. On completion of the apprenticeship, graduates are qualified to work as tradespeople across the residential and commercial building industry.
